What can be done at home to alleviate the pain of Gout?

I had gout for about 6 years before someone finally diagnosed it correctly! I get relief by not eating too much poultry or shellfish or legumes; I use ibuprofen; I wear my sandals on days when it’s flaring up; and I elevate.

Gout is caused by a build up of uric acid in the joints. See your doctor about it and he can prescribe meds that will help prevent gout.

As far as after you get gout, you will still need to see a doctor so they can prescribe some sort of painkiller. Regular OTC meds will help take the edge of the pain temporarily, but wont completely get rid of the pain. Drinking 100% cherry juice can help in some cases.

I believe anti-inflammatories are the treatment of choice. There are some dietary guidelines, but medication is the best way to control gout.
