Did you know that gout is an extremely painful disease of the joints, attacking the big toe first in most people? Too much uric acid in the blood is it’s major cause. Uric acid is formed when the chemicals called purines breakdown, which will then lead to much higher levels of uric acid in your body and cause many issues such as joint swelling and kidney stones. The uric acid is usually dissolved in the blood is filtered out through the kidneys into your urine. When this does not happen it builds up in your body and cause the crystals to form and in time causes gout.
You will find that many genetic diseases have an affect on the breakdown of uric acid and also cause it to build up. Other problems include being exposed to lead, eating foods high in animal protein; doctor prescribed medications, poor diet, too much alcohol and foods that are rich in purines. Foods that are known to cause gout are vital organ meats such as liver, brain and kidneys. It is known that foods like herring, anchovies, peas and dried beans are also a cause of gout. Excessive alcohol use can play a huge role in the destroying of uric acid.
Medications such as diuretic or something as common as aspirin are also causes gout. Anyone who has had an organ transplant can be a gout sufferer. Those folks on many medicines should talk to their doctor to see if there are issues with their medicine and if another prescribed medication can help.
Those that rely mainly on proteins and not as much on carbs for their diets, and if they do not have enough water in their system will also experience gout. A family history of gout is also a major concern as a person with the family history may also be a prime target for getting it.
