<p>There are a many different opinions on treatments for arthritis. A commonly used arthritis medication called glucosamine has recently been getting a lot of attention. Lets take a closer look at this interesting product.</p>
<p>What is it? &#8211; Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is naturally found in the human body and in other animals. Commercially it is produced from the shells of crustaceans. It is widely held up as being of use to patients who suffer from osteoarthritis. This is a condition where the cartilage covering the ends of bones in a joint becomes worn down. This results in inflammation, pain and swelling. It is estimated that there are over 20 million sufferers of osteoarthritis in the US.</p>
<p>How does it work? &#8211; It is believed that glucosamine works by helping to restore damaged cartilage. This is important because cartilage provides protection and shock absorption in a joint. It may also have an anti-inflammatory effect. The product is commonly used in combination with chondroitin.</p>
<p>How is it taken? &#8211; For arthritis medication, glucosamine is taken in either a liquid or tablet form. It is recommended that around 1500mg per day is taken. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Pizza&#8217;s humble beginnings stem from the innovative combination of bread and tomato, agreed to have originated in eighteenth century Naples. The &#8216;food of the poor&#8217;, it eventually made a name for itself and brought tourists to the Italian city in pursuit of the fabled dish. The original &#8216;take-out&#8217; food, it was only in 1830 that the first eat-in pizza restaurant was created.</p>
<p>In order to preserve its heritage a council has formed called the &#8216;Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana&#8217;. They enforce the rules for what classifies the pie as the &#8216;traditional Italian&#8217; variety. Regulations on the temperature at which it is cooked at, the diameter and the methods by which the dough is made are among the strict stipulations they police. The dough, for instance, can only be made by hand, even the use of a rolling pin is prohibited.</p>
<p>Concurrently, across Europe and the Middle East pizza was being developed in slightly different ways. In Turkey for instance, the lahmacun was born. This translates directly as &#8216;meat with bread&#8217;, as such, in variation to Neopolitan, the lahmacun consists of flat bread topped with finely chopped pieces of beef or lamb.</p>
<p>With emigration to the United States went the pie, where it became a multimillion dollar industry. This then developed into regional variations such as the New York style; large flat slices, heavy on the cheese and toppings. Elsewhere, in Detroit, a square pie became the flavor of the state, again the emphasis on a range of toppings. Greek immigrants opening up restaurants also developed an individual style whereby the dish would be cooked in a pan; the origin of today&#8217;s deep pan variety. Together these styles have become the global image of pizza, that most takeaways offer.</p>
<p>This hasn&#8217;t been restricted to America, the whole world have diversified the original Neopolitan stalwart. Cuisine from each corner of the earth have found themselves topping the famous flatbread. Chicken tikka to tuna and sweet corn and everything in between; the base of bread and tomato is now a canvas for the culinary arts.</p>
<p>The Japanese, for instance, enjoy topping theirs with eel and squid, whereas the Russians prefer red herring. Separately the Australians opt for covering theirs in pineapple and prawns. Whereas, on the Indian subcontinent, those in Pakistan choose the spiciness of curry. In America, however, the preference is for pepperoni, where they consume a staggering 250 million pounds of the stuff each year.</p>
<p>It hasn&#8217;t just been the toppings that have been experimented with. The crust, disregarded by many, has been stuffed with everything imaginable, from garlic cheese, to wild mushroom fricassee and even more pepperoni. Some places now offer a double decker pizza, where two bases are separated by a layer of sauce and cheese for a real feast.</p>
<p>This is now such a big business and a worldwide delicacy, that every supermarket, street and street corner offers a slice for next to nothing. The U. S. leads the world in consumption with around 350 slices being eaten each second; over a hundred acres a day. This industry now returns upwards of $30 billion in profits each year.</p>
