Hair Loss in a Woman: What Causes It?

Hair loss in a woman can be caused by many different things. Stress is one such example – you can lose a large amount of hair about three or four months after you have an illness or major surgery. The stress of the illness in this case causes the hair loss and is usually temporary, the hair growth will return again. It is to as easy to identify and solve other causes of hair loss.

Hormones

In females sometimes hormonal problems can cause hair loss. Your hair may possibly fall out if your thyroid gland is overactive or under active. Hair loss can be helped by treating the thyroid disease. If the female and male hormones known as androgens and estrogens are not in balance it can also cause hair loss in a woman. To stop the hair loss you may get help by correcting the hormone imbalance.

About three months after a woman has a baby they can have hair loss. This is caused by the hormone factor since during pregnancy the hormones keep hair that you would normally lose. The hair won’t that won’t fall out before pregnancy will now fall out once the hormone levels return to normal and the cycle of hair growth and loss will return to normal.

Medications

Hair loss in a woman may also be caused by certain medications. When you stop taking the medications causing the problem your hair loss will improve. Blood thinners, medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy, too much Vitamin A, birth control pills and antidepressants are some of the medicines that can cause hair loss in a woman. Another reason for Hair loss

Hair loss in a woman can also be caused by certain infections. Hair loss in children also occurs with fungal infections of the scalp. Antifungal medications are an easy way to treat the infection and promote hair growth to reappear.

Diseases

An underlying disease such as lupus or diabetes can also be the cause of hair loss in a woman. It is important to find the cause so that you can get back to your normal head of hair since hair loss will often be an early sign of disease. Many of the problems are treatable or cure themselves in their own time when it comes to hair loss in a woman. You don’t have to worry if you have been pregnant and are losing your hair. The normal process of shedding occurs when your body is getting back to normal. It could be an underlying disease however if you have no real reason to be losing your hair and to stop the hair loss the disease will need to be corrected.

What causes hair loss in women and how can it be controlled?
I’ve heard some hair loss in women can be expected with age but are there any natural nutrients that can be used to help or aid in controlling the problem? Its kinda sad to see ones tresses go down the drain after shampooing.

Biotin lots of biotin(found in the vitamin section). You’ll notice results within 1 month even. Take it faithfully though. My hair is starting to fill in again. Try pre natal vitamins too. Stay away from the cheap shampoos that lather a lot, they will strip and weaken your hair.

Biotin is famous for making hair stronger again. It really will help you. Be patient and you will see.

I’ ve heard that one of the reasons that causes hair loss is stress and some of the shampoos and hairgels and stuff. If you don’t get the proper vitamins and nutrition, your hair may be the first thing to show it to the world. Hair is ultra-sensitive to good nutrition and vitamins, and there are actually several vitamins that can specifically can help your hair grow and look healthy

It could be stess, diet. Excersise is good for relieving stress. Relaxation tapes. Check your diet, be sure your eating the right kinds of food. There is a natural supplement you can buy at Wal-mart. I forget what it is called but I believe it is clearly stated for hair. I heard if you eat jello it will help the growth of finger nails and hair.

Check your head for bald spots. If you have round bald patches then you may have what is called alpesia. Go to your doctor they will give you a cream or shots in the scalp. (steroids) It is to stimulate hair growth. The cream didn’t work for me but the shots did.

I have noticed that when I don’t eat right and I get stressed out I lose my hair. (extremely stressed out, not the normal every day stress.) (I get bald spots) My hair has always grown back. The first time I had the shots. The last two times I changed my eating habbits and tried relaxing a bit more.

Like you said some hair loss is normal but not clumps of hair.

    Good luck to you

the above answers are good. need to check for hormonal causes also, like hypothyroidism, but the main culprit is heredity. the clue for heredity is ‘male pattern baldness’ and runs in your family’s females; it is treated with rogaine. stress, postpartum status, and low thyroid can do it. there are other hormone problems that can do it too. if it doesn’t run in your family i would get checked by a doctor.
shampoo/conditioner and hard water can do it to some people as dying hair and other treatments.

While some hair fall daily is natural, stress, hairstyle products and lack of nutrition can cause excessive hair fall as listed at http://tinyurl.com/kshvn . By changing your lifestyle and using herbal remedies, you can reduce hair loss. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/py7z4 .
