Is there a good home remedy for gout?

I know someone who was recently diagnosed with gout, is there something that could possibly treat this condition that is safe to use?

It depends where it is. My father had gout and they could never do anything for him. It was in the wrong place.It was about 4 inches in front of his big toe.
