What Is Gout?

Scientists are working to try and understand the condition of gout. There is a huge amount of research on how gout begins in the body, but the simple truth is that most doctors and scientists cannot seem to understand the causes of gout and why some have it and other don’t. Most gout reports will tell you that doctors have been struggling with it causes for years. Hopefully new genetic research will help them find out more about this disease, and give hope to the many sufferers of gout.

Gout is caused by a build up of uric acid in the body. That is common knowledge and has been clear for many years. Uric acid, which is present in most of our bodies, builds to an extremely high level in the blood in some people. While many doctors say there are pretty clear cut ways to avoid this build-up, they do not understand why some people get it and others don’t. The only idea they have at this point is that 22% of gout sufferers have the disease in their family. 22% does not explain the idea that it is a hereditary illness. Once the uric acid builds up in your body, the kidneys are unable to handle the overflow. They are needed to work as filters for the body, but at this point they cannot take the stress. The uric acid then crystallizes in the joints. This causes pain and inflammation.

As doctors continue their research into the mystery of gout conditions many of those gout sufferers will continue to fight the battle with outbreaks. It is a horrible and painful disease that affects millions each and every year.
